Cat Allergies

The Family Allergy & Asthma Medical Center treats many different health problems. We take great care in finding a solution that fits your needs and lifestyle. Some of the problems we treat are:

Procedures/ services performed:

  • Lung function testing by spirometry and by measurement of fractional exhaled nitric oxide.
  • Audiometry to measure hearing.
  • Tympanometry to measure ear pressure and congestion.
  • Allergy skin testing to inhalant allergens, foods, drugs, vaccines and stinging insects (bees, wasps, hornets and yellow jackets).
  • Drug and food challenge tests.
  • Patch testing for contact allergens.
  • Interpretation of tests done at laboratories.

Treatment options explored with patient are:

  • Medications - emphasis is placed on using safe medications with the least side effects.
  • Environment control - avoiding or decreasing exposure to allergens is discussed.
  • Allergen immunotherapy - desensitization treatment to correct the immune dysfunction causing allergies.
  • Diet changes - where food allergy plays a role.
  • Open attitude is kept to look at treatment with supplements that are safe and beneficial.

Treatment goals are to help patients live as normal a life as possible by:

  • Minimizing the disease to the greatest extent.
  • Minimizing any lifestyle restrictions imposed by the disease state.
  • Minimizing bad effects of any treatments selected.

Ages Treated

Allergies can affect people of any age. We take care of the whole family, including the newborn baby as well as the elderly. We encourage a kid-friendly atmosphere where children feel very comfortable and secure.

We also take of pregnant women and offer treatment options safe for the growing baby.
